Standard 3: Diverse Learners
A teacher must understand how students differ in their approaches to learning and create instructional opportunities that are adapted to students with diverse backgrounds and exceptionalities.
Artifact Descriptions
Artifact 1: Class Demographics
This artifact shows a kindergarten classroom that I spent six weeks in during fall of 2015. Shown in the artifact are the demographics of the class. |
Artifact 2: Seating Arrangement
Artifact two shows a seating arrangement I created during my ten-week student teaching placement. The students are seated at circle tables with five students at each table. For privacy considerations, I used students' initials for identification. |
Analysis
Artifact 1: Class Demographics
The class demographics allowed me to have a slight understanding of the students before they entered the classroom. This allowed me to prepare the classroom to fit the needs of the students as well as prepare for all cultures that made up the class. |
Artifact 2: Seating Arrangement
When creating the seating arrangement, many things are to be considered. I was given the reigns to arrange the students as I thought fit. As I created the seating arrangement, I thought about students with IEP's, students with trouble focusing, and any other individual student needs. I considered where those students were seated in relation to the SMART Board. |
Synthesis
Artifact 1: Class Demographics
I used this demographic survey to prepare for student teaching. I have now completed sixteen weeks of student teaching. Reflecting on videos of lessons taught during the beginning of my student teaching experience, I notice growth in many areas. I have improved my mannerisms and vocabulary used when teaching students. I have also grown in my ability to create lessons and the classroom environment to encompass all cultures within the classroom. |
Artifact 2: Seating Arrangement
The seating arrangement allowed me to look at each student's individual needs. I reviewed IEP's and took each student into consideration while planning the seating arrangement. After changing seats, there were adjustments that were made but they were minimal. My cooperating teacher agreed with the changes and fully supported the changes I made. |
