Artifact Descriptions
Artifact 1: Book Character Literacy Night
During spring semester of my junior year, my cohort participated in a family literacy event at Riverside Central Elementary. We dressed up as book characters and set up a classroom with literacy activities for students and their families. |
Artifact 2: Literacy Night
While student teaching in Stewartville, the school held a literacy night full of activities, a book fair, art show, and cupcakes! Above, I am pictured with one of my first grade students, enjoying the literacy night. |
Analysis
This event had a wonderful turn out and was enjoyable for all age children. Students were able to bring their families to see their school and enjoy a fun and educational evening. This event was a great promotional event to get parents involved in their student's education. I was able to interact with students I had worked with throughout the school and meet their parents and siblings.

This event was a breakthrough point of my student teaching experience. I was able to be a part of this event by supervising "Create Your Own Bookmark". I interacted with students from other classrooms as well as students from my own room. I also had the chance to meet many of the parents of my students if I had not done so already. I was able to have conversations with parents and meet siblings of my students.

Synthesis
This activity allowed parents to be involved in their child's education. I feel as if this is something that every school should do. This was a lot of work to put together and required many volunteers but was worth it. Parents and students enjoyed themselves and raved about how fun it was. I hope to be a part of an event like this at the school I work for.

This activity allowed me to be involved in the school that I was becoming a part of during my student teaching. My cooperating teacher was unable to be there so I was forced turn to other staff when I had questions or concerns.
